For a number of years now, ActiveWin Media has enjoyed a strong affiliation with the Super League, and our bond is only growing stronger.
Our partnership with Super League sponsors Betfred is legendary, and we have recently teamed up with Wigan Warriors to provide a digitally enhanced customer support and fan engagement service.
This week, a matter of days after their Grand Final victory, we were invited to the home of St Helens, to talk to local businesspeople about our services.
As if the attendees weren’t excited enough to take part in our rugby-inspired quiz, there was also the small matter of Saints’ record-breaking head coach, Justin Holbrook, offering his insight into success, both on the field and in business.
A huge thank you must go to Gary Wilton, Sales Manager at St Helens, for coordinating such a ‘Totally Wicked’ event in the plush Stapleton Derby Premier Lounge.
A quick reshuffle in the running order meant that our very own Brian Young was up first. Brian just about had time to finish his sausage butty before taking to the stage to introduce ActiveWin Media to the crowd.
It isn’t easy to entertain a crowd of professionals, particularly at 8am, but Brian managed that and more.
13 teams answered 13 questions, in a clear nod to a Rugby League starting line-up. Each team was designated a club, with some visibly happier with their team name than others (sorry, Wigan!).
The questions ranged from sports and gambling through to social media and even our distance travelled to reach the event (24.7 miles for anyone wondering).
It was great to see our team’s debate on whether the Grand National or FIFA World Cup final takes on the most bets, and how many UK cities now have a 5G network.

Our 13th and final question explained our customer service offering, with Live Chat available between 8am and midnight, 365 days a year.
We asked the average response time to a Live Chat, and our listeners were visibly shocked to learn that the answer is in fact seven seconds!
Do you understand now why we’re so keen to push this service?
We’d like to offer our congratulations to our winners, each of the Wakefield Trinity team will receive a free digital health check of their website, worth £500!
Our ActiveWin themed packs containing personalised pens, notepads and stress balls also went down a treat. At least we’re assuming they did, as there weren’t many left at the end of the event!
To wrap up what was a truly spectacular event, departing St Helens head coach, Justin Holbrook, also sat down to discuss his time in the North West. It was a slight change from the player of the month plan, not that anyone in attendance minded! He even gave some advice on business.
“I’ve learnt quickly that it’s very difficult to win. I know a lot of you are businesspeople. If you’re in management, you have a lot of people under you. And you can only ask them to work hard or do their best.”
On the miraculous turnaround that saw his side go from last season’s underachievers to the new champions, the Australian-bound Holbrook added:
“I said to the players, ‘you’ve got a choice to make. Keep going the way we’re going and finish seventh or worse, or you can change your behaviours and standards and have a good crack at the back end of this year’. To their credit, they all did that.”
If you were at the event, and wish to speak to our team further, head to our Contact Us page and drop us a line. We’d be happy to invite you into our office for a coffee (on us) and to discuss how ActiveWin Media could assist you and your business.
A final thank you to everyone involved in organising what was an excellent networking event. We had a ball, and hope that everyone else did too.
