ActiveWin Media has been digging deep into the talents of our fantastic staff to raise money for Spinal Muscular Atrophy UK. Our most recent fundraisers were the Great North Run in September and October’s Bake Off.
The Half Marathon
Five of ActiveWin’s finest were among the 58,000 people who took part in this year’s Great North Run, pushing their bodies to the limit, to raise money for SMA UK.
The team pounded the roads for a whopping 13.1 miles, from Newcastle’s city centre to South Shields and raised a fantastic £950.00.
Marketing Director, Adam Rowley said:
“We signed up to help raise money for ActiveWin’s partner charity Spinal Muscular Atrophy UK. It’s a rare but devastating muscle-wasting condition, which affects babies up to adulthood.
“SMA UK relies almost entirely on donations and does incredible work improving the lives of people living with the condition, and their loved ones. To be able to help the cause a little bit is fantastic.”
The Great North Run is the largest half marathon in the world, taking place annually in September, since 1981.
This year, there were record crowds of more than 200,000 lining the route and enjoying the sunshine, with celebrity runners including footballer Michael Carrick, Olympian Chris Tomlinson, model Nell McAndrew and comedian Rob Deering.
Marcom duo Stephanie Banks and Jenny Cox ran much of the race together, as Jenny tackled her first-ever half marathon.
Jenny said: “I’d recently started running with a small community running club at home, and when the opportunity came up to do the Great North Run, the rest of the Marcom team convinced me I should do it!
“It was great having Steph by my side to help keep me motivated and help me manage my pace, and the thought that we were raising money for such an important cause helped to push us over the finish line.”
Senior Onboarding Manager Graham Hoy and Senior Media Buyer Daniel Goux also took part and benefited from the support of the spectators.
Graham said:
“It was a really enjoyable experience with lots of support from fellow runners and an inspirational crowd. I don’t think I have ever had so many free Jelly Babies!
The support from everyone in the ActiveWin office kept me going through the final stages, so a big thank you for that.”
There’s still time to help ActiveWin reach the £1,500 fundraising target. Just head to the team’s JustGiving page and donate. Don’t forget to tick the gift aid box to ensure no tax is paid on your donation.
On Your Marks, Get Set, Bake!
The next part of our fundraising efforts for SMA UK was the almighty Bake Off. All of the teams within the business were tasked with baking some sweet treats to sell, and the standards were pretty high!
From brownies and blondies to cookies, cupcakes, and gorgeous sponge cakes, there were plenty of star bakers at ActiveWin HQ that day.
To make things even more exciting, the teams were competing to make the most money from their home-bakes and shop-bought specials, with the hope of being crowned champions.
All in all, our Bake Off raised over £240 for SMA UK, and just in case you were wondering which team won, it was a combined victory for Finance and HR.
So far this year, this brings our running total raised for SMA UK to more than £2,000!
Thank You!
To anybody who supported our Great North Runners, and to our brave bakers, huge thanks!
Thank you all for your continued efforts to raise money for this important cause, which is close to our hearts at ActiveWin.
